The Alamo

As one of Texas' most well-known historic landmarks, a trip to The Alamo is a must for any Old West enthusiast. According to the official website of The Alamo, the former Spanish mission later became a fortress and was the site of the most famous battle in the state of Texas in 1836. See the place where iconic Old West figures such as Davy Crockett and James Bowie fought valiantly for 13 days to gain independence from Mexico. Although there is no cost to visit The Alamo grounds, visitors can pay a nominal fee for a guided tour.



Also known as the Yellow Rose of Texas, Amarillo is rich with Texas history. According to Avis, Amarillo offers rodeos, cattle drives, and museums in a city that has both class and a country feel. A walking tour of Amarillo is the perfect way to start your visit to this iconic Old West town. Do not miss the chance to tour the Lee and Mary E. Bivins home, the Kress Building, and the Paramount Building. Be sure to make time to visit the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum to learn more about the animal's contribution to the establishment of the Old West.


Enchanted Springs Ranch

Located deep in the Texas Hill Country in Boerne, The Enchanted Springs Ranch is an amazing replica of a genuine Old West town, according to Texas Hill Country Trail. Visitors can start their day at the general store, head over to the saloon for a drink, and then grab dinner at the chuck wagon. The 86-acre working ranch will make you feel as if you are living in this historic time period as you become immersed in all of your surroundings. Ticket prices start at $14 for adults and $7 for children ages 3-12.
