Don't Forget to Do These 3 Things Before Your Vacation

September 6, 2019

The time has finally arrived for your vacation. You boarded the dog and asked your neighbor to keep an eye on your house while you're away. You're already picturing yourself lying on that white, sandy beach. But there are a few things you should still do before you go. Here are some things you should do before you go that you might not have thought about.

Get Travel Insurance

Regardless of the destination, it's always a good idea to buy travel insurance. There are several types of travel insurance with differing coverage. However, not all travel insurance types are the same, so it's important to know which is best for you. For example, some types of travel insurance protect you against delayed or canceled flights, overbooked hotel rooms, and lost luggage. Travel insurance can also cover you or your family in case of a medical emergency. Medicare is not accepted overseas, so if you're over the age of 65 and traveling abroad, you need the right type of coverage. If not, you may find yourself paying out of pocket for ER visits and prescription medications. Travel insurance can also protect you if you're a victim of crime. While traveling to an exotic location is exciting, it's not always without risk. Travel insurance can cover your expenses, help you get home and even provide you with an emergency evacuation plan.

Make Copies of Documents

In addition to having travel insurance, take copies of important documents with you. These should include copies of passports, driver licenses, and birth certificates. If you take prescription medication, photocopy your doctor's orders along with a note stating why the medication is needed. Especially when traveling abroad, you need to prove why you need the medication. If not, they might throw it out at customs.

Clean Your Home

Nothing ruins a relaxing vacation faster than coming home to dishes in the sink and dirty laundry. Take the time to clean your home before you leave for vacation. Run the dishwasher, make sure the laundry is done and the bathroom is clean. When you come home, you'll feel even more relaxed.

From minor mishaps to being stranded in a foreign country, having the right type of travel insurance can protect you and your family. Before making a final decision, read the fine print and make sure that the coverage suits your needs. When you prepare in advance for your trip at all levels, you can enjoy a much greater sense of relaxation.
